Bring back super ted, sam tan and all that jazz!!!
Nodi and bob y bildar have replaced the more traditional home grown welsh programmes the famous super ted and Sali mali ect. Sali Mali and Superted were the best days of our childhood and our children now won’t be able to learn from these "home grown" welsh programmes. These programs were the ways we learnt the Welsh language best. Nowadays s4c viewing figures are down because they have silly comedy programmes that has gone beyond stupidity, which has many younger viewers turning to cbeebies. The art of home grown Welsh cartoon programmes is diminishing with the buying of the rights to bob the builder. These will eventually end to the losing of jobs and the art of programming in the Welsh republic, will this be the ned of cartoon making in Wales eventually!!Their is a worrying trend in Wales with the closing of the ITV childrens programming and the repeats and poor quality of s4c’s new programming service, more and more young Welsh viewers are turning to the BBC for their childrens programming. This is a worrying trend in every area of public life, the media, documentaries and childrens programming.Gwynfor Evans our first and most historic president didn’t go on hunger strike in order to have a s4c that was full of sport programmes and an omnibus of Pobol y Cwm he wanted a professional and a high standard channel full of Welsh made documentaries and programmes. S4C has commissioned some quality programmes Sam Tan and Wil Cwac Cwac which has been sold worldwide! But we have gone backwards in recent years with the buying of rights to English made programmes and repeating lots of shows on s4c, viewing figures have plummeted and only 10% of welsh language speakers watch s4c. When 30% of Welsh children are fluent in Welsh a quality television service is a must in order to keep the Welsh language alive. Gwynfor won the battle for a Welsh language broadcast service and we must use it to ensure the future of our language. The provision for age groups on s4c is abysmal, youngsters can watch s4c from the ages of 1-10 but after that theirs a sudden cut off point where, nearly no provisions are made for teenagers. Except for Uned 5, children who have watched s4c for a decade are turning to other channels because s4c are providing nothing for them to watch. A whole generation of Welsh speakers are being lost by the complete incompetency of S4C to provide programming for a Welsh teenage audience. Once teenagers stop watching and using Welsh services they will stop using the language and thousands of Welsh speakers will be lost for ever. Instead of aiming all commissioning at the under 5’s, they must create a broader spectrum of childrens programming in order not to lose a generation of Welsh teenage speakers.S4C needs to improve it’s provision of programmes and bring back old classics in order to reignite a passion for the Welsh language and keep thes old language alive!
